Salvia Usage

How To Use Salvia

Salvia products come from the actual leaf of Salvia divinorum, which has quite a long-standing history.  The leafy plant that is used for Salvia products was originally found and used in the Oaxaca region of Mexico.  The shamans of that region used Salvia in different ways for spiritual healing, medicinal purposes and religious ceremonies.  Today, Salvia is used for many other reasons including psychoactive effects and the treatment of certain illnesses.

Things you will need for your Salvia journey:
1. Bong, pipe or water pipe
2. A torch lighter preferably, or alternatively a BBQ starter or regular lighter
3. A quiet room, a sitter, and a comfortable couch

How To Start a Salvia Session:
1. Choose a Bong, water pipe, or a regular pipe; the use of such devices will make it much easier for you to inhale and retain large quantities of smoke that are required. Additionally, Bongs or water-cooled device will aid in marginally reducing the bitter taste and coughing that may result due to inhalation of the smoke. Do not attempt to roll into a joint or blunt, this method will not work.
2. Prior to starting, make sure that the pipe is thoroughly cleaned; left over residue could conflict or reduce the enjoyment of your Salvia session. Inhale and ensure air can be drawn from it easily.
3. Load your smoking device with the desired quantity. Apply the flame of your lighter directly onto the Salvia, all the while inhaling slowly and deeply at the same time. Keep the flame going and inhale for as long as you can, then hold the smoke in your lungs for 20-30 seconds before exhaling. Holding the smoke in your lungs for as long as possible will ensure you maximize the benefits of the session.

Above, we have outlined one of the most popular methods of consuming Salvia and that is by way of smoking.  The other common way of ingesting Salvia is by chewing the product.  Long ago, the indigenous groups of Mexico would create a tea infusion for drinking.  We have given the steps to smoking Salvia because smoking is considered to give better effects on the body.  That is because the active ingredient, Salvinorin A, which causes all the effects is present and is taken into the system.

Blends available for smoking come with various concentration levels depending on the preparation process.  The strength of the blend usually depends on the natural strength of the Salvia leaves before they are processed.  The leaves are basically dried and made into a paste so that smoking with a pipe is possible.  The potency, or strength, of the Salvia product also depends on how well it has been extracted.

How Salvia is consumed is primarily up to the individual.  It is important to always start with low concentration levels as a beginner in order to see how your body handles the product.  As you gain more experience, you can move up in concentration.  Every Salvia experience depends on the individual's body, the potency of the blend, and how it is consumed.
